Ackley was gathering more industry support and has been around for decades. You can buy 280 remington and shoot in your ackely in a pinch, then reload the fire formed brass. I can still carry an extra round over the PRC. And even if I used a PRC I would still prob be using the 162 gr ELD-X.

His 1st Elk was at 702 taken with 280AI @3000 FPS with Berger 168gr Classic Hunter and R26. One and done. Another hunter in camp also ran a 280AI w/ same load and took his bull at 340y. 1 shot. I may have gone with an 280AI or 7mm-08 to start with instead of a 7mm WSM, because of having more complete powder burn for a shorter barrel. But then the grass is always greener on the other side. On the other hand the extra velocity of the 7mm WSM is nice. The 6.5-06 is about the same as the 6.5×284 Norma, ballistics wise, but the 6.5-06 AI has a slight velocity advantage over them. With a 26″ barrel, the 6.5-06 AI would give me an additional 100-200 fps which would be very beneficial in down range energy. In the end I decided that the 6.5-06 AI was the rifle I wanted to build.The .280 pushes the 140-grain bullets to 2950 to 3000 fps, the 150-grain to 2890 fps and the 160-grain bullets to 2780 fps.
