Some folks have had the best results using Kubota SUDT in the BX. Not related to the darkening problem unless a UDT equivalent is being used is an off-brand rather than Kubota UDT. Kubota does check for Kubota fluid according to the manager if warranty work is required and use that as a reason to deny the claim. According to him, any fluid with the specs meeting UDT will work and not harm the tractor. I think that is just a scare tactic to get you to pay $20 a gallon for their branded fluid.
The owner's manual calls for either Kubota UDT fluid or 80W-90 gear oil to be in the front axle. I have been shopping around my local auto stores, Rural King, and TSC for a good gear lube. The better quality 80W-90 gear lubes are ranging anywhere from $9 to $14 a quart! I need eight quarts!

While talking with him I asked for a quote on changing the UDT and two filters. He said total would be $450.00 including both filters and 11 or so gallons of fluid. Said materials would be $325.00 and labor $125.00. Seems quite fair to me as I don't have drain and haul off 11 gallons of fluid.

Jul 19, 2020 · If it's an HST, I would only use Kubota fluid. Gear drive, Rotella. I use the Rotella in one of my M9's (other has Chevron in it). My 2 cents, take it for what it's worth. Personally, I wouldn't use TSC store brand fluid to start a brush fire with. it's JUNK.
