I think Glocks are preferable if you only shoot Glocks, and XD's are preferable if you shoot a lot of different pistols. imo it's due to the Glock's grip angle being different than 85% (arbitrary number) of the rest of the pistols on the market, notably the 1911. Only downsides to the XD [was] the finish that wore off, no extended slide releases (which is only needed for us lefties), and the fact that the IDPA crew doesn't think it's a Service Pistol due to it's trigger internals. The XD's slide is a little thicker than the G-19, but with the right holster it's a non-issue.
I can certainly tell the difference in muzzle jump between a Glock and an XD. The Glock is simply easier for me to shoot fast and well because the front sight doesn't jump as high.
