Lake Itasca ( / aɪˈtæskə / eye-TASS-kə) [1] is a small glacial lake, approximately 1.8 square miles (470 hectares; 1,200 acres) in area. It is located in Itasca State Park, in south-eastern Clearwater County, in the Headwaters area of north-central Minnesota, and is notable for being the headwater of the Mississippi River.

In spite of major mechanical problems during part of last weekend’s Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers (LIRPF) show, the club’s 1930s Wood Bros. threshing machine got to work on Sunday separating the grain from the straw. Club members actually fabricated the needed part and got the thresher going, powered by a tractor attached via a long belt.The Lake Itasca Family Music Festival is held on the grounds of the Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers, in North Central Minnesota. Adjacent to the north entrance to Itasca State Park, on Highway 200, we are in a beautifully wooded area, with many historic buildings. Next door to the festival is where the mighty Mississippi River begins.
