I saw pictures somewhere of an SKS with the marks filled in flush with paint for some reason. The rebuild mark is visible on the cover though so the cover was probably replaced with one which wasn't stamped. 2 ...

There is a SKS fourm and that may be a better place to ask it's Survivors SKS board. There are 2 factorys that made SKS Tula is the most common and Izzy that is short for a Russian name. Izzy only made them for 2 years then they started making AK47's so Izzy are harder to find Tula are very common.
