I deleted mine and two days later, I had a Check engine light. It was for the air intake heater, so I erased the code, installed a load resistor and yet have the CEL come back on. Yeah i think its basically a glow plug idea for the intake air..Might be a lil harder starting when cold but no biggie.. The voltmeter will drop when the heaters were supposed to be on because the alternator is offline. Three conditions must exist before the inlet air heater will operate in the pre-heat cycle: 1. The ignition switch must be in the "RUN" position. 2. The coolant temperature is below the lower limit of the temperature switch. 3. The inlet air heater has not timed out for thirty seconds in the pre-heat cycle. P0541 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for "Intake Air Heater Relay 1 Low". banyon. If the grid heater was on you would see the draw on the amp meter. Keep a test light in the truck with you & when it comes on see if the grid solenoid is getting power. It should have power to one side but not to the grid itself. The intake air sensor is the one at the air cleaner.

Was a little disappointed not to see a bump in mpg's, but at least its soot free now.
