I started hearing the strange noise a year or so ago very sporadically. I didn't know what it was, but Mr Google and this site informed me about the IWE issues.To rule out/in IWE you can do 1 of 2 things. 1. If you have 4A, leave it in 4A. 2. If you don't have 4A, pull the electrical plug to the solenoid on the drivers side firewall. Both should keep the IWEs engaged. See if the noise reoccurs. I'm sorry you are having trouble with your F-150. I understand how frustrating this can be. The noise you are hearing is a vacuum issue. Either there is a lack of adequate source vacuum to the IWE solenoid, the IWE solenoid is not passing adequate vacuum to the IWEs when activated, there is a vacuum line leaking between the solenoid and IWEs, or one of the IWEs is leaking vacuum internally.Proceed to Step 12.
