Pathfinder kingmaker mercenaries vs companions.
After 1000+ hours in the game you tend to know what you can and can't do without checking every little detail. My current unfair run (but only Normal kingdom difficulty) I dismissed most of the companions. I have 5 advisors as mercs. The -4 penalty hurts a lot; they're definitely suboptimal, but they mostly work.

None of the mounts comes even close to what Horse provides. Smilodon has 5 attacks and pounce. With how Leading Strikes and Outflank work in RTWP it's the best companion when it comes to raw damage. 8. If you have it off active party members divide it evenly meaning if you have less then 6 you get more. Shared Exp on. Ex: Everyone (including non active) gets 10 exp for the kill or skill check.

Animal Companion is always good. Ecletheurges of Gozreh and Erastil are basicaly staple support cleric builds. Animal is usualy taken as secondary domain, while Water or Community are taken as primary. Now if you want a melee cleric it is nice to take a single level of traditional monk for Wis AC bonus and crane style.

The companions in wotr aren’t bad. U already have the 2 best supporting classes in the game paladin and cleric that can give ur team insane attack bonus, unless ur playing on unfair u don’t need mercs I know I beat the game on hard without mercs and used mercs on my unfair playthrough. I prefer mercenaries.
